A Night in Shining Armour.

And now once again
It’s the thick of the night
I lay in bed writing
By dimming flashlight
I’m unable to sleep
I keep dreaming that one
That keeps me awake
‘Til the break of the sun…

Off in a castle
In a faraway land
The doors are shut tight
And out front I stand
The horizon is split
With a pale cutting lightning
An omen for something
Much more violently Frightening
My sword is clenched tight
And before I need wonder
My blood is run cold
By a deep rolling thunder
Not that of nature,
For on yonder hill
Come charging a thousand
My true love to kill
She waits inside
For her knight to come back
And I, on the outside
To save her from attack
With terrible roar,
The monsters draw near
The horrors draw close
And I fight back my fear
Raising my weapon
Polished and whet
My helmet is fitted
And my feet are hard set
I prepare for the onslaught
When the thought does occur
Not one step backwards,
You’re fighting for her
The epiphany lights
A new fire inside
Of anger and courage,
Of love and of pride
From ‘neath my helmet
I solemnly swear
I will not let them harm her,
They shan’t touch a hair
And now I am ready
As towards me they spill
I swing without mercy
And make the first kill
Heaving and lunging,
My rage is relentless
My deed is noble;
Their sin is repentless.
I cut them down,
One after the other
As each is left slain,
I turn to another
Their numbers seem countless
With no end in sight
With arms growing heavy
I continue to fight
The battle is fierce
But their lines, they are thinning
It finally seems
That I’m actually winning
The few left retreat
And I believe the day won
But the storm clouds approach
And block out the sun
The ground splits apart
As it rumbles and quakes
With flames roaring forth
My very soul shakes
From the inferno
A monster forth springs
With flames so intense,
My eyes it stings
At five men tall
The demon stands
A flaming sword
Clutched in its hands
A single swing
To make me gasp
It rips my saber from my grasp
He swings again,
It’s barely dodged
In the dirt his sword is lodged
From a corpse I rob a spear
The moment to be judged is here
His weapon’s raised,
And now I lunge
Through his chest
The spear is plunged
It stares at me
With empty eyes
One final groan
Before it dies
The day is won
I look around
A thousand dead
Litter the ground
I take my helmet
From my head
And grimace
At the stains dark red
But I’ve prevailed
And now depart
Back to the woman
Of my heart
The doors push open,
She quickly stands
I take her gently
In my hands
I whisper faintly
In her ear
“Be with me,
It is so clear
You are my world
You make me whole
I love you with every
Grain of my soul
Have me or not,
‘Til the day that I die”
At this, the princess
Does reply:

And like all dreams, I now awaken
Here I lie, my breath still taken.
On her, my fate and love depends-
To tell this knight
How his dream ends
