Immortality
In thought it is ideal
In theory another modality
But in life, lost all appeal
Alone in immortality
Surrounded yet completely alone
The loss taking on a finality
That only I can own
Aging agelessly
Seeming just an old soul
But when looking clearly
You can see the hopeless whole
Immortal in mortality
Awake yet dead to mortals
Lifeless in a whirl of vitality
An unwilling traveller of the portals
Life passes around
But the immortal can't taste it
They watch like a lost something is found
But all they've discovered is a minute
Immortality
In thought it is ideal
In theory another modality
But in life, lost all appeal
Author notes
I wrote this the night my best friend moved away. I was emotional and was finding comfort in the silence of the night. This is what came out.
