The Love Letter Collection

Across my room
in the oak chest of drawers,
the top right is yours.
Packed with all the love letters
from our many years behind
with love, each one has been signed

The stories unfold like the sheets of tattered paper
this one here is from many years ago
The one that asked me to the Homecoming Dance
it was accompanied by one single red rose

This letter was passed while crossing in the hall
we had no time to talk that day at all
You passed it to me on your way to Art class
I unfold the paper and what did I find
A simple “I love you”

This picture is one I drew for you
it was hanging in your locker as long as I knew
Our stories have unfolded from these simple little notes

That one in the blue envelope is a letter you sent to me
While you were deployed in another country
Our love continues to burn inside
these letters no longer have anything to hide

I rummage in them when you are not here
Just to remember where our love began
how things were back then

This love letter collection will continue to grow
reminding me of our love you never forget to show
Across the room in that oak drawer
Our stories unfold
forevermore

Oh my god, while I was reading this, I was actually terrified that it was going to have a sad ending - I'm so glad to see it didnt...

This was so beautiful, and nostalgic, and loving - I'd say it made most readers wish that they too had a love letter drawer and so many memories tied away on paper and pen, to look back on and cherish and relive the memories.

You summed up some of them beautifully for us here, and the choice of background was inspired - thank you fro entering!

beautifully done darling, the description that you put of the letters, plus the events, plus what they actually said, filled in every blank the reader would look for. I'm sure we all have old love letters, unfortunetely I burned mine to ash...no proof of the memory means it never existed

    Love you,
    Well done,
    Eggeh

It's great how the rhyming isn't forced here, you dont need to read the poem in a set rhythm so it's just like the story you mention. Personally I think it would've been better if you'd started with "Across the room in that old oak drawer" like you finished with and then added the Forevermore to the end, but it works just fine this way too. I can't think of anything more heartwarming than reading about a girl who's actually found a guy and decided to write a poem about him or the love letters you have from him.
I really enjoyed this poem and it made my day, considering the weather outside is so bad as well ^^

    Many thanks for the write.
