All my life I wanted to be grown-up,
and so the years passed by with my impatience.
Now I am here and I see before me
an eagerness to turn back time and be a kid.
When did reality twist its hold,
and make life a film running backwards?
Innocence stripped, naivety lost, just a cold chill;
Wide-eyed surprises have left me blinded.
I hold on to what's left, cherishing all;
careful not to hold too tight, fearing it will fall away,
crumbling in my eager hands,
that once craved what they now have,
a bittersweet taste of truth...
that is the aftertaste of youth.
