A Life Time Ago

Running away from him
  [He was getting to violent]

Going to supervised visits
  [Court didn't even trust him]

Having long therapy sessions
  [That got us nowhere]

Lying to social workers
[So they wouldn't take him away]

Spending Easter at a womens shelter
[&& Everyone wonders why I hate holidays]

Crying myself to sleep most nights
  [I couldn't take the screaming]

Never knowing what was worse
  [Home or school]

Never knowing what was going on
  [I was "to young']

I can't believe that was only
      four years ago
            &&
Letting myself Remember that much

But now, is the time to Remember and understand
To move on and get over what happened a Life Time Ago

Author notes

Recently my mom and I were in Mahopac where we used to go to the Womens Center over there and have family therapy sessions. It completely felt like that happened to some one else. Someone from a movie. But it happened to me, and I'm still fighting with it. The more I don't let myself remember, the more I can't forgive and live on. So yeah.

I can relate a little bit. Like you felt like it all happened to someone else and not you or it was like some really weird movie you saw.

This is a really, really good poem Amber. And the very last line of the poem makes me have a whole lot of respect and admiration for you =] Awesomeness~!
