The Bitter Reality

Where were you when I needed
a person to care?
Where were you when I needed a friend?
I didn't need post cards or bouquets
of roses
I needed you just to be there.

Where were you when my soul hit
the depths of dispair?
When the pain was just too much to take.
I did not want sympathy, just a close friend
I needed you just to be there.

And you know what hurt more...now that I recall,
Is the sad realization I found
The person I trusted, and knew as my friend,
Never was my friend at all!

    Wow,Powerful!

I have beem through this before.
I do mean here recently too,So i know how you feel.
The hurt,The anger, and all that emotion wrapped up into words just poured out onto paper ..
It's always good to vent out and let some of that emotion leave you.
Good job with this poem my friend.

    Excellent

Ah, 'tis a very poignant write, indeed. A situation which many of us can relate to. You expressed yourself quite well. Hope you are having a good day.

This is clearly a very personal piece. My advice, when you write something this close to you, something that relfects emotions currently held, is put it away for months, maybe a year and then tinker with it when the emotion is cooler, more memory than hurt.

It has some very good stuff in it but it could use some tinkering in terms of cadence and maybe word choice.

    Well Done

Your poem makes me think of our late father and many of the feelings that he had the last years of his life.  I hope that he found that after the bitterness of reality, the "sweetness" of the truth set him free.

    so sad

friends are there always, need a friend, don't depend on someone weak, keep the inner strength and pedal on, as friends you will find in the right person
    sad but well written

      Thank you!

As always, thank you for reading and commenting! This poem was written during a bad time in my life. But the message to the reader still holds true.

It is always very painful when you realize that someone you thought was a friend wasn't really. You did a good job of conveying this pain in your write. Good job!
