Author notes

A visit to my patio,
courtesy of cell phone camera,
technology and imagination...

But alas for the top tomato,
for it gave up it's life tonight
to enhance our bountiful salad,
along with a bevy of cherry tomatoes.

But its portrait lives on!!!

Soon, soon, I say, but the temps in low 30's today!
Note everything is planted in containers.
Quite a few are wintering in the graage,
the big spike in the tall blue pot
on its fifth year. The garage herbs
      are growing under lights now,
but won't take the chill of June
nights in Wisconsin, so will be
      replanted!

      Thank you, gypsy.

      Hi, Maureen!

Well, since I water under moonlight. usually the neighors are all tucked in, so I can thank my green and red guys
      for their perseverance.

That big spike in the tall blue planter is on its third year, and the bayleaf and basil on the fence side on their fourth year---as my strong buddy moves them into the garage each winter. I resort to wheelies underneath to move the
other big guys.(The other garden pix are in "Energy.")

Just below your comment is a pic of the same cherry tomato plants taken just two days ago, so you can see how the heat and extreme sun like to yellow the leaves, and thus thin the plants, when I trim away the fading leaves.

The joy of container gardening, arranging the containers
until pleasing to the eye, and having everything easily
      accessible.

maa, for quantity, try cherry tomatoes.
This year I have ten plants of Sweet 100s,
the name indicating each plant should
100 cherry tomatoes. so far the harvest,
closing in on 300!(And the best pop of flavor!)

The three medium large tomato plants, about 40 tomatoes
      so far.

But, oh, those hot days----causing the leaves to yellow.

But joy, early this morn, after a moderate day and a very cool night (dew sprakling on the grass) NO MORE yellow leaves since I trimmed them away the day before!!!!

Plants are now thinned out compared to the pix above taken in July when just budding.

After watering, the best aromatic enchantment, herbs in
the air. And now that the cherry tomatoes are in abundance,
impromptu salad for the snacking hose wielder, tomatoes,
basil leaves, mint, oregano---patio buffet by the handful!!

      A true maa meditation!

    Dear Aesthete,

A fantastically beautiful collection of pics and haiku but the SPCT (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Tomatoes) is considering punitive action.
I have teied to point out to them (on your behalf) that it was actully a tomartyr.

Applause, good luck in the contest. (You didn't number your haiku BTW!)

      Hugh, a tomartyr!!!!!!!
      It appears Yem and Ima
      don't have a lock on
      the creative humor!
      A good one!

      Please, no numbers...
      it's all one "story"--
      uno--une--a collective piece.

      I inserted the sub-titles
as I was entering, for I
      was posting the wrong pix
      with the words, getting lost
in the long lines of code
and trying to get the spacing
      just right. I had intended
to remove them after all was
      set, but visitors had already
come in to read and comment.
So I left them in place.

I don't consider this work as separate
pieces, but rather commentary as one
      strolls thru my garden gallery.
One composition made up of many parts.

Returning a big smile, love and hugs!!!

I was so happy when the lobelia bloomed
as they had been a gift to me in a pre-planted
container. A former Summer Theater student of mine
from years ago came to visit in May, bearing green.
The beautiful blooms remind me of her success

The red leaf lettuce I snipped and snipped,

like cutting leaf lettuce and it came back again.

The pic was taken in early morning light

      Oh, don't say "Hopeless."
In the years when I had a good back and knees
(can barely remember them!) no time to plant much
in the ground. But the joy of containers, with wheelies
underneath for the heavy ones. Since I live in the "land of frozen tundra" (WI) Summer goes quickly, and the containers
over-winter in the garage, with hardy herbs like rosemary
and mints producing long into the cold, just with lights
      over their heads.

I bet some container plants could fall under your kind
      influence and flourish.

It's the battle with nature, it seems,
that prevents us from having the beautiful scene
we see in our minds translate to living, growing
plant life. Too little or too much rain,
          and that hot burning sun!!!

Several days of near 90s and the tomato leaves
curl and turn yellow, even in containers with
a water base, and watering daily. Like too
          much of any good thing.

With hopes that the memorial garden
          helps to soothe your heart...

    Amazing Gazing ...

    There's lots of life
    that shines right through,
these pictures - and sweet songs.
    I could not judge,
    from where they grew,
    that act to God belongs.
    But what you share
    Is just the treat,
    fresh like peppermint gum -
    I ‘d like to add
    you’ll take first prize,
    for having that green thumb!
    Now don’t you fret
    nor think me wrong,
for I could sit and gaze,

    you make with love
    and ev’ry day rephrase …

You are multi-talented! These photos are great, so lush and succulent looking herbs and tomatoes. I wish I had my herb garden now.
Oh well, your haiku fill my imagination with the taste. Best of luck!

Margaret, nice to see you here!

A week of hot, hot sun,
      takes its toll, despite
      watering daily. The dreaded
      yellowing leaves appearing
      within the tomato plants,
      so it's snip and pull
      to clear them away.

      Thank you, Margaret,

      M-C

      Thank you, Darlene.

Arranging the words on the page
an easier task than toting containers,
      and then encouraging the growth!
      But satisfaction from all phases.

What a tasty trio! Your garden, your art and your poetry. Gee those tomatos look good, as do the herbs.
    Wonderful!

      Hi, arafura.

      Good to see you here!

Container gardening is all I can handle,
so luckily, it works well. Not the bountiful
crop as in the ground, but plenty to keep
      me happy!!!!

      Thank you.

Wow, cellphones take good pictures, who'd uh thunk it.

Beautiful contemplative, philosophical pieces. And of course great photos...I'm envious of the tone and the green thumb! And as an eater supreme, I'm envious of those who will get to dine on them. I've actually grown most everything in those pictures at one time or another, the herb and regular garden fell into disrepair from laziness but I have future plans just months away.

Inspiring words and equally inspiring photos...want some good old fresh from the garden tomatoes, will go look for a farm stand this weekend.

She entered! And I see there are 30 entries, guess I better get to reading a few more.

Pass me a tomato...No, not the hot pepper!

Passing a twin to the top photo...
along with some sprigs of rosemary
for rememberance, so those garden plans
get put into action. Months away?

      Quick before the ground freezes!!!

I bow to your past gardening experience.

Thank you for visiting my garden gallery
      and planting such nice words!!
