August

When summer returned alone
shorn of company I'd rather keep
and despite all feeling
the Sun still swept the sky to fall
and Moon followed faithful rise

and August held the front
of time while tears covered a  fallen side;
morning was not the welcomed friend
it had been when it kissed your eyes.

But I know that within me
there is the ash of life and you
are there in the ember and the coal
for some reason, some faultless moment
brought so much and yet so little.

For love does not change its face
not by age, nor rise of joy fall
of sadness; it measures us and keeps us
and we will always know its touch.

Another of my favorite poets whose work I would recognize in a heartbeat. Each poem has such graceful language and offers insights into life and love. The concluding stanza would be the perfect inclusion in a wedding ceremony. The words are timeless. I look forward to your entry in the next round. Peace, Liz

I think you are very true to the meaning of, Saudade.

    my favorite lines are

But I know that within me
there is the ash of life and you
are there in the embers and the coal
for some reason, some faultless moment
brought so much; and yet so little"

It feels like the void only goes so deep, and somewhere, the remnents of what you are missing, are still there....

Very nicely done!!! I give you a 10!

thank you so much for sharing such sensitive and gentle words with us in response to the current situation ... when I have no words, or only clumsy ones, a verse like yours expresses what I am unable to express ... in such moments, I am short of wisdom (not only then ), and there seems to be no appropriate way of consoling one in grief ...
through gentle understanding, and putting yourself in the other person's skin, a space of trust is created and surrender can take place ... tears can fall freely ...

thank you so much for your precious poetic assistance, this sounds a bit silly, but it is of such great importance right now ...

    much love,
    maa

The eternal memory, the forever lasting love which will continue in some other sphere. The second chapter, leaving immense 'saudade' behind. That great void can only be soothed when we know nothing has really ended.
That soothing feeling you pass through your words.

"...you are there in the ember..."

    The glow, ever-present,
    if nourished with memories,
    this gentle portrayal of August.

I just had to copy those lines, PK...it resonates with and within me. yes, somehow in loss it's still a comfort to know that the same sun and moon shine on all of us and even when we can not see them, they are there.. constant, like love. Wonderful spiritual quality about this poem - something timeless. Thank you for this.
