I open my eyes and the abyss swirls around them
Burning with the salty tang of the sea
Blurring my vision as light dances
In patterns unrecognisable to me
Bubbles of my breath reach for the surface
As I grasp at them like a manic
Seeking to somehow hold on to my breath
As I am overcome by panic
The first painful breath as my lungs burn
Water drawn in instead of air
I cry and gargle at the pain
As my lungs begin to tear
A moment of clarity
A swirling blue light
Some strange life-force
Is helping in my plight
Pain is forgotten
I forget to feel and see
Peace settles on my mind
As death embraces me
