It's been a while...
far too long that I can barely
see the tip of yesterday
It wasn't too long ago
that we were close at hand
sharing memories
as we were making them
Now it is a lonely picture
laying under a pile on my bureau
faded goodbyes fall back into my eyes
your eyes flit in response to our conversations
It's easy to never say a word
I know I'm just another person who
walked out in your life
It wasn't my choice
And I know how you felt, now
as I gaze at the fragments of our friendship
you tell me I've changed;
It was only a matter of time
And time folded over into hyper speed
to rush me through a nightmare
and I see finally
how small and unaware I was
an itty bitty nothing
in a ravenous world
but it can't end here, not now
I still need you,
Because you understood when no one else had yet.
