On Being a Parent

If children are a blessing
Why do parent feel they're cursed?
I guess the reason must be this
We see them at their worst.

We see them do the things that we
As children, dared not do
And say the things our parents taught
Were truly, most taboo.

Without a thought of how you feel
Or of what someone might say
They willfully disregard you
And so begins your day.

Oh what a very special treat
To start out every morn
with, "I don't WANT to comb my hair," or
"That's how I LIKE it......torn!"

These common day dilemmas are
What we as parents bare
And we MUST be doing something wron
That's it! We're just not fair!

These battles seem truly unending
All that we can do now is wait
When we wanted to become parents
We signed and sealed our fate.

It's true that our job isn't easy
In fact, it's quite taxing at best
To insure that OUR kids are a cut above
The common, the average,...the rest!

All kids hate their parents
And guess what, that is you
I know what I;m saying
I;ve had quite a few!

But their hate never lasts long
Their love is much stronger
They grow up, then we wish
They'd stay children longer!

Just love them, enjoy them, and hold them near
There's nothing as wonderful as children my dear
They'll enfuriate you, drive you right into space
Then you look at their rotten, adorable face...

That will grow up to leave you
Children most always do
So kiss them now and tell them
I will always love you!
