The Grim Ferryman.

I can feel my soul ebbing away,
like the sea at low tide.
I feel like I've lived for eons...
And it's all just a waste of time.
Drained by everyday tribulations.
Burnt out by everyone's drama.
Consumed by trying to keep up
with everything that needs to be done.
I don't think I'm going to catch this ride
the next time around.
Crippled and lame, limping along
until I will finally collapse,
broken and bleeding,
at a finish line that no-one else sees.
Depleted of all joy and love of mortality,
I can see him beckoning to me
from the shadows hidden;
welcoming me to a final resting place,
welcoming me to finally come home.
A Home with Ole Black,
where there will be a place
to sit by the fireplace
and rest these old diminished bones.
Everyone else is afraid of him,
"He comes too early!"
I hear their cries.
But for some of us Old Souls,
that grim ferryman couldn't come soon enough.

Author notes

What drains Me? Life.

Charon, the Ferryman was son of Erebus and Nyx (Night). It was his duty to ferry over the Styx (or Acheron) those souls of the deceased who had duly received the rites of burial, in payment for which service he received an obol, which was placed in the mouth of the corpse. It was only exceptionally that he carried living passengers. As ferryman of the dead he is not mentioned in Homer or Hesiod, and in this character is probably of Egyptian origin. He is represented as a morose and grisly old man in a black sailor's cape. By the Etruscans he was also supposed to be a kind of executioner of the powers of the nether world, who, armed with an enormous hammer, was associated with Mars in the slaughter of battle. Finally he came to be regarded as the image of death and the world below.
