This morning, weary of the world,
its superficial games,
its ego-minds, blown-up with pride,
attached to forms and names,
I chose the cavern of my heart
for refuge from it all,
preferred to listen to the sound
of life-breath’s rise and fall;
when distant footsteps I perceived,
in answer to my plight.
My inner longing must have called
the Lady of the Night.
She told me : “If you’re seeking peace,
ignore the voice of mind.
Through priest of pride, through book of old,
no lasting bliss you’ll find.”
Her Spider-Spirit spoke to me :
“Your soul-parts have been caught
in worldly web of Maya’s whim,
for comfort you have sought.
Attached to strings of ancestors,
their burden on your back,
you can’t dive deep and cannot taste
the freedom that you lack.”
Then, Raven-Spirit took its turn
to offer me advice :
“When choosing surface over depth,
you’ll pay a bitter price !
I’ll take your fear to face the Void,
the Source of Mystery,
the Home of ‘all not yet in form’,
no-name … no history …
Then Owl said : “I shall give you Sight
in darkness you will face.”
And Whale droned: “I shall guide you where
Great Silence you’ll embrace.”
The Lady of the Night just smiled,
and from behind her back,
she took a sacred amulet
and tied it ‘round my neck.
Reluctant, I took leave from her,
her Totems by my side,
who courage, help, protection, sight
through powers would provide.
I entered darkness of the Void
where mind-waves cannot flow.
My ego-shell dissolved in Space,
made inner Being glow.
Together with the “I” dissolved
all things that I’d held dear,
and suddenly, the thought arose :
“I might as well stay here !”
And with this thought, the “I” was back,
its world of “me” and “mine”,
the veil which hides the holy place
where inner beings shine.
Farewell, dear Island Avalon,
where “I” am, you can’t be !
The dead-end-road away from Home
shall be “my” destiny …

Depth of mystic thought
flows from the face of one whose veil is lifted. Diana, Aphrodite, Themis and Isis are parts of the vision for me. She is the female archetpe of the mystery. What we struggle to understand can only be acheived by perception. Using the totems as guides on the journey through the card is a brilliant stroke of the pen. The letting go of I and reclaiming it at the end is a perfect finish. Thank you for the 'share of wisdom'. -
maa, maa, maa
You never cease to amaze me. Just when I think I got a handle on your writing style you show me something new. I will do a comprehensive comment at the time of judging. All I will say right now is how much I appreciate what you and Mairi share with me in this series. I learn from each card that you share with me.

What incredibly spritiual writing. You have a gift. I've never seen your work here before but I want to read much more. This was a true saga.

maa, wonderful such a pleasure.
I had to turn away from injustice in the world, to realize although my thoughts were of compassion they were adding to it, to let it go without feeling like I was deserting the world was a huge challenge for me.
awareness of the ego is an incredible leap towards evolution.
absolutely exquisite write maa
deeper then I have ever read, truism shines here my friend
God bless always...

Beautiful and true
Your first two stanzas spoke for me too, we all need relief from "ego games". It is a paradox, isn't it, that the harder we fight ego, the stronger it grips. You have a wonderful facility with presenting wisdom in verse, I enjoyed this very much. I appreciate the irony of the last three stanzas - that is the essence of the struggle which is so futile.
Best of luck!

This is very deftly done. This stanza, in particular, spoke to me:
"Attached to strings of ancestors,
their burden on your back,
you can’t dive deep and cannot taste
the freedom that you lack."

-
What is important here is your "voice" and your poetry. I can't help but love them.

The "lady of the night"
has blessed
the "lady of enchanting words"
with clarity
as told in this most interesting scenario.
Another adventure for your readers, maa!

Thank You
Wow, you have no idea how much your poem has just helped me.
I've been studying tarot for a few months now, and one card I have difficulty with is The High Priestess.
She comes up in weird spots- I can't figure it out when I see her.
your poem has really helped to open me up to her.
I think the flow, rhyme, the beauty of your words, the story like feel to it all worked wondrously.
Beautiful!
