You Cannot Stay

Sit a while my little friend,
seldom do I  have guests.
You must have come a long-long way,
stay and have a rest.

Do you need something, how
can I help, what is it you ask.
In need of dust, or out of beams,
maybe just here to bask.

Tell me dear I’d like to know,
then send you on your way.
For if you sit and visit too long,
I will ask you if you’ll stay.

I’m lonely here up with the stars,
I watch but never join.
I’ve seen you a million times,
from Calcutta to Des Moines.

You’re taking care and spreading love,
to all of those you meet.
Watching over all the girls,
wandering homeless in the streets.

It seems your days catch up to you,
every couple years.
I’ve caught you crying a couple times,
you cannot hide your tears.

It’s not your fault nor anyone’s,
that people can act this way.
I saw you help that little one,
you saved her yesterday.

You cannot stay but just to rest,
I’ll put new moon beams in your hair.
Then you must go and help some more,
sometimes it’s only you that cares.
