Gone

Grieve on, dear breaking heart, grieve on.
No human words can stem the tide of tears you’ve yet to spill,
nor scale the depth of this profanity:
the centre of your universe is gone.

Weep on, sweet broken heart, weep on.
An endless “Why?” cast to the heedless spheres above. Until
at last you feel a calmer certainty:
the answer lies where her sure steps have gone.

Live on, courageous heart, live on.
The love you kindled more than fifty years burns brightly still
and lights your way to immortality
and her; and rest, and peace, all sorrow gone.

    Goosebumps and Tears!

Wow! This is one of the best poems I've read in this category. Words woven masterfully to comfort the anguish of one left behind, provide hope of a future reunion, and to bring peace in the time between. So many things you've said here struck my heart's chords, specifically line two and your closing two lines. Thanks for sharing! Elaina

    wow ...
your poem has stricken me like a thunderbolt of lightening ... yet I can feel the nectar of gentleness and compassion overflow at the same time ... a poetic bird with one wing being wisdom, and the other love ...
how beautiful, how magical, how amazing ...
I am so touched by your poem, and the moment I clicked on it, my husband entered the room and he read it with me ... immediately, he whispered : "c'est beau !" (how beautiful !) and left the room again ...
it was a magic moment ...
are you an angel or something like that ?

I envy all those who have been blessed with a long and happy relationship - but of course there is the devastation of being the one left behind. Thank you for your kind words.
