Of Wave and Sand

Missing image

The depth of every ocean

Hides its immortal soul

Each fertile pulsing wave

Brings life to every shore

As men march off to death

In every human war

And blood flows back to life

In rivers wide and long

While aeons mirror life

In every eternal song

And history etched in sand

Spills on endlessly

Through the story of our lives

In every foreign land

Author notes

Thoreau's quote "In wildness is the preservation of the world" fit my thoughts this morning as I pondered the wonder and the meaning of it all. As Jung writes: "...the lack of meaning in life is a soul-sickness whose full extent and full import our age has not yet begun to comprehend"...

the opening 4 lines are so deep, profoundly beautiful. I love the whole poem. I love the kinda circle of life thing you brought into it with the next 4 lines. And, I think the ending is kinda neat because it is almost stating how all people/creatures share a soul no matter where they are from.

      Thank You, Kind Lady!!!

I'm glad you like my poem, although I'm at a loss in thinking of a better title. "Of Wave and Sand" seems to fit alright, but it's not exactly a memorable one. Thank you again for stopping in to read my work today, and thanks for the kudos. I am honored.
