Apple pies, yorkshire puddings and silver cars - oh how I miss you.

Even though it’s been a year now
My tears still fall in secret
And my heart still saddens
When other’s talk of their Nan’s

I remember every moment
Of those heartbreaking
Unbelievable
10days

People always laugh
When I tell them
What I miss,
The most about you

I miss your apple pies
And your roast dinners
With yorkshire puddings
And the way you counted silver cars

And no-one will ever understand the bond
Between you and I
Because you weren’t just my Nan
You were also like my best friend

And I still miss you so so so much.

Author notes

I lost my Nan to cancer just over a year ago, i lost a best friend when she died I miss you so much Nan. x

Option 1: Write about someone that you loved very much who died and how you handled it. This ones important to me and really shouldn't be taken lightly.

Little bit about me: At the age of 15, and watching my Nan die of cancer I realised life was to be led and not wasted - this poem is dedicated to her and I hope I've made her proud in the last year and a half.

FOR "THE LAST SEVEN DAYS OF YOUR LIFE" - AP name: xBeCx.

FOR "THE LAST SEVEN DAYS OF YOUR LIFE" - 3. death in general... emotion needed here...no emo-y stuff..sowie but i'm looking for that grief

This is a favourite piece of mine and is certainly one of my best writes this year.

Option 9 - Have you had anyone close to you that had died, write and tell me about it .

Probably my best pre-write.....

My Nan dying of cancer inspired me to write this.

Aw. I am sorry for the loss of your Nan. By Nan, I am assuming that you mean grandmother. I am really close to one of my grannies and I could not even imagine how things would be without her, so I totally understand your pain. I really liked your tender piece. Thanks for the share! Best wishes to you!

  • this is simply and amazingly emotional.

Wow, it's like you didn't need all the beautiful words to touch people. You took simple, everyday things that ment so much to you, and made the readers of this poem see their true meaning to you. I'm sorry for your loss, but this was a truly amazing poem. Great job!

So sorry to read this, it sounds like you two were very close - I never knew my own grandparents, but one of my best friends from home put her own life on hold to live with and care for her own grandmother for two years -

    She has since wrenched herself away, and gone to college again, while her nan has a carer in, but i know how hard it was for her ;

and you sound like you really did lose a best friend here, i'm sorry that you had to go through that

thank you for sharing your story with us

It is always rough to lose a beloved friend, be they blood or not. I am sure many readers will relate to missing the "small things", as do I. The small things matter most.

I actually felt this. It reminded me of my Nan. My family laugh at the me too when I tell them that I miss her meals like spaghetti and garlic toast, cheeseburgers, fried chicken mashed potatoes and fried cornbread, and homemade blueberry muffins. It's not actually the food that I miss; it's the love and stories that told me while preparing them when I was really small.

    Thanks for entering!
Best of luck in the contest!

I kindaq understand what your saying here.
I lost my nan 2 years ago to emphasema (i dunno how to spell it) She was like my best friend. I went round to see her every thursday night and she'd have me my favourite dinners. I still cry myself to sleep a lot. Nobody knows i miss her. But i can kinda understand. Your poem was amazing and really brought on the tears. Great flow and amazing language, sorry if i spelt wrong, i'm currently sobbing. Just want you to know that if you ever need to talk. I'm nearly always on, so just give me a scribble and i'll always reply. I loved the bit about the apple pies. Good luck in the contests. xoxoxo
