I'll Always Be There

Dear son,

If you look up to the sky tonight,

you'll see me smiling down at you.

Every star in the sky represents,

every teardrop that has fallen from my eyes.

I want you to know that I am alright,

and that my spirit lives on within your heart.

I know that you can't see me at the moment but,

if you open your arms you'll feel my warm embrace.

There is so much that I need to tell you,

and I can feel your sadness deep within my soul.

Just know that I am here for you,

and no matter what you do I'll always love you.

The road ahead may be unpredictable but,

just remember these words and you will prevail.

Don't ever give up on yourself my son,

keep striving and make your dreams come true.

I am so proud of the man you've become,

you've never let me down and you won't now.

I believe in you with all of my heart,

and I'll always be here watching over you.

With all of my love,

Dad

This is such a very touching piece here... A soothing piece of emotion to span across those unreachable shores. Great depth throughout, hopeful and truly poignant. Thank you for your entry!

    I enjoyed this, and thought that it had a good 'theme' to it, apart from one tiny thing;

"Every star in the sky represents,
every teardrop that has fallen from my eyes."

Because a family woudln't really want to think of their father crying so much that all the stars are his tears? =/ At least I don't think so; think they'd prefer to think that he's at rest / happy where he is? What do you reckon?

Best of luck in the contest =)

Losing a parent would be the hardest thing in the world. I can't even imagine that sort of pain. This was a very thoughtful and loving poem, dear!

My dad died almost a year ago and I had almost no relationship with...I actually had not seen him in 4 yrs but when my brother called I hopped a plane and flew to say my good-byes.....We hardly recognized each other for obvious reasons but in the end I knew he was grateful that I was there...I never got a chance to tell him all was forgiven but I think he knew...I would like to think that if he had been in his right mind that this is what he would have felt towards me. Thanks for this my friend....you gave comfort to another soul. Best wishes
