Dear dad,
I know this time around I'll be the only one saying "I love you"
And it's going to take some getting used to
So I brought your favorite radio
This way we can sing your favorite songs
And nothing could go wrong
Even mom is singing and dancing to the thoughts
Baby's getting older
And these december nights are colder
But even if you're not here I feel your warmth around my shoulders
The butterflies are flying
Mommy's always crying
To your picture on the wall
I'm playing in the coat you left hanging on the door
Everyday I go to work, working hard at all my chores
If you could see me you'd be proud
Of me as your child
But you'll never be as proud as I am
Calling you the greatest dad
Even if I had you for such a little while

Those last few lines certainly had a way of pulling at the heart strings... A lovely piece of innocent and sincere thought, reminiscing of the moments shared. Thank you for your entry!

Interesting - this woudln't be my usual type of poem HOWEVER I did really like this one; it sounded like it came from the heart - i think it was the changes throughout of what was happening. And, also, really liked all the imagery - particularly the one of waering his old coat that used to be hanging on the door. nice job
