...my second chance at life
began a lively celebration.
From one too many whiskeys,
my brains had turned to gel
without a light to guide my way
I staggered into hell.
When next I saw a friendly smile,
still hazy from from the frey,
my world would change to downside up
like night replaces day.
I lived through lesser dramas
with a hidden force at work
whoring trips in places
where social curses lurk.
Lost and in the toolies
I collided with the wind
for that final glass of cheer
I would never walk again.
Yet in our darkest moments
a ray of hope awaits
like the beacon on a lighthouse
to warn of narrow straits.
In the aftermath of tragedy,
troublesome at times,
a heightened sense of purpose
and the strength of who I am,
helped me face the future
...stronger for the storm.

brutally honest
and courageous. A self realization that came from the most dire circumstances. It is how we choose to face adversity that determines the character of an individual. You have shared a story that I will find hard to forget.

Both sides of the coin can't always be easy, 'cause the world keeps turning and sooner or later it's your turn for your life to be cast upside down on the pixel .. but you wrote this with remarkable bravery; you can feel the courage emanating from within it. bravo

Courage and determination in the face of difficult times will always come through shining in the end. Life ain't easy but when the tally is made up at the end of the game those who persevere must win. Teriffic writing my friend.

The way you can put stuff together and your poetic ways, im pretty sure you will have no trouble in the contest. Nice job on this one. This one really drew me in.

Sure enough, it reads like a true story, and I get a sense of inner strength coming from the man you are. I would bet that there are many poems and stories hidden between the lines of this one.

OK David, if this is real you have had some pretty rough times to survive; on the other hand you have a fertile imagination. I think perhaps the former. A well constructed piece.
