Some nights, like tonight, I contemplate the full moon's rise
And recall when Saturn Vs thrust heroes through the skies.
Technology had allowed us to reach for heaven
In a craft we had named Apollo 11.
As a young boy, I watched Niel Armstrong step on the moon,
In rapt attention from my parents' living room.
Everyone has those special moments in time.
My first one was July 20, 1969.
Author notes
Niel Armstrong became the first man to walk on the moon on July 20, 1969.

Thank you for reading and commenting. I can remember that clearly like other moments that had a big impact on me at the time. Where I was when Reagen and Lennon was shot, when I heard the Beatles broke up, when the Twin Towers Massacre occured.

Wonderful poem about an incredible event. I know my mother said it was all anyone could talk about for a month.

I am a firm believer in space exploration. Mankind needs a grand unifying vision that does not stifle creativity. I also enjoy immensely the technological benefits of space exploration.

From my perspective at the time, I was six, that is how I remember it. I can even remember where I was sitting and in what chair I was sitting in.
