Too Late

She cries herself to sleep
Every night.
There’s not a soul that cares
In sight.

She doesn’t understand
How someone so dear
Can strike in her
So much fear.

He starts yelling at her
Every time he comes home
And as he starts in
She feels all alone.

She prays that he’ll stop
As she endures the pain
But he won’t stop
Because she’s to blame.

It’s all her fault
That his life isn’t perfect
It’s all her fault
That he gets no respect.

And there’s not a day go by
She doesn’t wish she were dead,
Not a day go by she doesn’t wish
She had never been had.

But, one day somebody
Picks up their phone
And makes a call
To rescue her from her home.

When the officers got there,
They were far too late,
Because, ultimately, suicide
Was her fate.

I thought you were writing about me for a moment, until I read the last two stanzas. Beautifully penned, Scott....Thanks....

This made me cry! So heartbreaking. The worst thing is that this sort of thing happens everyday thanks to the asshole guys women date. Nicely written, but very sad, nonetheless.
