The house across the street
Still has its Christmas lights
I’m sitting here and watching them
Go from red to white
I hope your car is stuck in snow
I hope you’re freezing there
Cause I want so bad to wait right here
To see your face again
I count the days you’ve been away
And hope you’ll be here today
But while you’re filled with longing
My heart is filled with sorrow
Even though this is our Antarctica
Where it never thaws
I hope for hope you’ll be here tomorrow
But tomorrow never comes
The days are playing out like an opera
There’s the drunkard, there’s the thief
And even though the lady won’t sing
The audience suspends disbelief
They want to see their payment
They want their money’s worth
But that old fox will never stop
Till the ends of the earth
While I count the days you’ve been away
And hope you’ll be here today
And while you’re filled with longing
My heart is filled with sorrow
Even though this is our Antarctica
Where it never thaws
I hope for hope you’ll be here tomorrow
But tomorrow never comes
Oh, tomorrow never comes
Tomorrow never comes
Author notes
This song was inspired by all those winter snowstorms and how they can delay traffic, juxtaposed on which was a romantic subplot. I enjoyed writing this.
