Dr Jeckle & Mrs. Hyde

She’s my vicious cycle of abuse
the Bi-Polar girl of my eye
too much makeup, acting loose
endless heart aches make me cry.

Her love for me so pure
My heart and soul reels
but when her manic side calls
it's slutty clothes and heels.

When I’m not at beck and call
with her loose side on the rise
foundation of love will fall
into this relationships demise.

The way I see this is your living with someone you love who has bi-polar.  I could be wrong but that is my take on it. Must be heart wrenching to watch the cycles knowing there is little you can do about it. Although Bi-polar isn't formally known as a personality disorder, acting out like this is a symptom of one. So thank you much for entering a nons perspective and best wishes to you.

  • you do describe a certain aspect of some bipolars' behavior here, although "slutty" behavior is not always a manifestation of hypomania/mania. It certainly is for some. Also, it can be considered a form of acting out as well. The inappropriate attire, wearing too much make-up and "acting loose" are all well-established behavior patterns of manic episodes, but not for all.

Each person who has bipolar is unique. I could certainly understand your perplexity and the difficulty of dealing with your "Dr. Jeckle & Mrs. Hyde." Depending on the severity of it, bipolars can be very difficult to live with. I can also see how the up side of her behavior is almost exciting and mysterious to you.

Come on, you know you like it! Just kidding. I know it hurts you deeply. Even though I am mildly bipolar, I have dealt with others who are worse and it ain't easy. Sometimes it is very scary... Thank you for your entry.

I like this. I haven't seen too many good poems on bi-polar disorder, but I definitely enjoyed this. Great take on the prompt and wonderful flow.
Thank you for entering my contest and good luck.

I don't turn slutty; I go from extremely happy and content to depressed, suicidal and murderously angry. Vicious and hurtful. I feel it coming and it's like a locomotive I can't stop. The nice me gets out of the way to let the train take over. Even on meds I'm out of control. Then trying to pick up the pieces ... unable to undo the harm or take back vicious words. Your last stanza seems apt though. Thank you very much for the entry.

    Amusing and sad.

Sounds as if you've had personal experience with a bi-polar person. Not much fun. Right on point. I like your rhyme scheme and rhythmic flow. You chose my prompt and I enjoy your take on it. The title is apt, as the first story to highlight the symptoms of manic depressive illness, was your paraphrased title. A very good job. Return the favor?
