Normandy...
Legions of men storming mine ridden beaches,
Gunned down, artillery shells spilling shrapnel,
People dying, the end of a line,
Children not able to say goodbye.
Success, they reach the enemy lines,
There they fight the beginning fight,
Tear across Europe until V-E day,
Great America, how it deserves a break.
Home...
War production bringing us out of depression,
FDR smoking, stresses hit hard,
Making a decision to go to war,
His health is failing.
In White Sands, a project is underway,
Operating in secrecy, great minds,
Like Einstein, leading great Manhattan,
The darkest day to dawn in small Japan.
Japan...
MacArthur wounded, troops left thin,
Orders retreat, a government sin,
Roosevelt dies, a country is stricken,
Truman, successor, learns a quick ending.
Hiroshima dies, a bomb to the skies,
Great evil mushroom rising way up high,
Destroying thousands in the blink of an eye,
V-J day, Japan's spirit died.
World...
World War II had come to a close,
All was at peace, or so it seemed,
A war of coldest hatred began,
leading to no world peace, but world hatred.
Cold War,
Marxism,
Spread of Communism,
Animal Farm,
McCarthyism,
The Crucible,
Korea,
Vietnam,
Persian Gulf,
Desert Storm,
9-11,
Afghanistan,
Iraq.
Modern war, no different, merely the same.

This is great! I loved how you told multiple stories in one, how you focused on each of the different places for a few stanzas. Great write!
