manic-depressive
now it’s Bipolar
guess the old term
was too expressive
of our reality?
it’s a trip!
35 years on a salt
named Lithium
now on anti-whatevers
I’m under more control
now, but still cycling
just a little -- so I take
another anti-something
for the other anti-whatever!
it’s a trip!
love my highs
hate my lows!
on high it’s
poetry time
on my lows
it’s crying time
oh, what a woe!
it’s a trip!
up and down
down and up
just like a pony
on a carousel ride
you go round and round
and up and down
it’s a trip!
Author notes
I'm not now a member of your group -- but I have submitted my application for membership! I know my disorder (call it a disability, if you will) is very common nowadays, people used to joke about it -- now they don't, thankfully! This disorder or disability leads many of its sufferers to alcoholism, drug use, suicide and many other serious problems! Therefore, this up and down ride must be treated and admitted! I know, I've been there and done that!

I appreciate your insights into being bipolar. Thank you for sharing them. I have had two friends with bipolar. I know that it was a real struggle for them.

I am sorry you are Bipolar but I believe that even if we have a 'disorder' ( I don't like that word either)... I always think that it gives us other positive qualities that soften the blow. It's great that you feel more able to write when you're happy. I am not good at writing about happiness. When I feel it...I live it...but can never seem to write it. I like the way you referred to Bipolar as a carousel ride. That is a very apt description. Well done

Clear, worthy, real writing
Very descriptive and therefore informative, very helpful in understanding

I so relate!
Love the graphic. Yes, the highs are great; and almost make the lows worth it. Take care my friend.

Excellent
I too suffer from this horrid disorder and you have described it to a "T" - No longer do I commit to things that are long-term, because I know I am bound to disappoint. Very well written, Poet.

Wow what an amazing write I could so relate as I too suffer from bi-polar. It is a up and down ride through life. I am so glad you have joined the family, you will love it here. Hugs Theresa

I know what you mean.
Oh how I can relate to this one, because I went through this for over ten years. It was a constant battle especially when dealing with cancer. Being bi-polar is just as much a disability as others. However your abilities show through. Congratulations on entering our group.

Good write with the humour mixed made for a good read brother..Creatively and humourously you share your condition....It is not without it's challenges..but the humour goes along way!

I really like how you expressed bi-polar/manic depressive
like a carousel;
ups and downs, ups and downs.

I think everyone has their sub-feeling just depends on what time of year they have it. Highs and lows. Like spring in the winter and winter in the spring I think.
