Peaceful face creates allusions
of the soul that was;
dare me if you must,
but I should never touch her
wrinkled hands.
Too distant is she from I
who merely stands inches from
her slight frame.
Teardrops flutter by as pining
takes the place of nostalgia,
for even if our hands were linked,
her touch could not be felt...
Reluctant good-byes fill the thinning air,
and suddenly all that's left are
memories
Author notes
Prompt: distance
My own thoughts:
The greatest distance of all
is the distance between worlds...

"Too distant is she from I" - that line can be interpreted in many different ways... the distance from somebody else of the distance from the self - it works either way. This is indeed a very poignant write where the voice is personal, yet also universal. Someone once said we are all just memories. Lovely writing - thank you for this entry.

This is very poignant indeed. You are right, there really isn't a greater distance than that between two worlds. Some distance can be eradicated, but this is far more permanent. In your first line, I think you meant "illusions" rather than "allusions" - unless you are referring to the idea of the face making indirect reference to the soul.

This was so morbidly beautiful. Words can change everything - a life, a love, a death, a beginning. Yet the lack of them could possibly be even worse leaving everyone with regret, disdain, obsession. I think exactly what you say to a person depends on how close our world is to theirs. But thats just me.
You did amazing on this; so simple it left a crater sized hole in the readers thoughts.

Beautiful
A beautifully sad portrait of a funeral. Love your word choices and the flow of the piece. Nice work.
