Impotence Again

Seems like thirty-nine again,
when there went Poland,
and Russia made Finland bow and bend.

A mere perchance your say.
As western Europe collapses in decay.

Smaller nations. Democracy's fall.
As the E.U. stands shivering and small.

And oh their eyes are caste away.
Appeasement now, let the tyrant have his way.

History forgotten. His child won't know
About the massive war, over sixty years ago.

But yet it's clear. The cold chills back.
Visions of the wall, again, as we turn our back.

And this impotence comes into play.
As that brave nation, Georgia.
Stands alone and fights for liberty today.

cause some controvery huh...Anytime there is fighting or war going on you can bet it will be controversial...unfotunately there will always be those touchy feely people who believe a big hug will solve everything...Great job on this and bringing the war between Russia and Georgia into the light...The rhyme was great and the content of poem was also awesome....Thanks for sharing with Bob!!!~~~Toni~~~

    Bravo!

Very well penned and said! This is brilliant! Love the poetic graphics and the strong impact so gently packaged in such phenomenally true words. So many children of today prevail in blissful ignorance of what it was like to be at war for peace. Terrorism in a new form we see with certain factions today but the period you describe was hard on the soul and you never knew friend from foe on a larger scale then, scary and yeah an impotency of decency in some cases. The cruelty of war and warmongers is still ingrained in the souls of the survivers of that era, you paint this so well graphically that the reader feels the essence of that era so strongly and it really hits home the profound message conveyed so eloquently here.
Well said, well penned, well done, love it bravo! Write on!
    Poetic Hugs,
    Kaz.

      Hi

And ty so much for your kind comment. As they say, history tends to repeat it's self but I fear that many have no idea about what I am saying.

Thank you for sharing this. A very strong warning to all of us, very well written. More people should pay closer attention to what is going on. The line that really put the shivers up me was the one about the EU standing shivering and small. Not good given that Russia is so powerful.

Again, thanks for this. God bless!

      Sadly

It seems the the free world, including the USA have lost the will to stand up to the tryants of the world. Perhaps when they are at our doorstep will do something. I pray it is not to late.

It will always be like thirty-nine again Bob, God knows why, evidently we don't, maybe one day we will, when everything stands still...

      Thanks

I know a lot of people have no idea about what is happening over there & that is sad. Funny though a friend of mine just came back from Italy & he told me about an articile in their paper saying that Bush & his wife are splitting up because George is having an afair with C. Rice. Now that is really scary far left crap. lol

What I find amazing is some are saying that Georgia attacked Russia. The spectre of the USSR looms again & western Europe hides their heads in the sand. The great SOCIALIST movement in the USA smiles & we forget history.

The persuit of power, the corporate greed, and lack of consideration for people make for unjust killing of innocents. There are about 30 conflicts going on in our world and you have highlighted this one admirably.

Well thought out and speaks in volumes. Content is controversial, yet that's what I have been hungry for. An intellectual piece to be appreciated. Thank you for taking the time and effort to penning this piece of wonderment.

It's a good political poem, Bob, but I wonder if the background to this particular conflict is as simple as big bully Russia picking on a weak neighbour? What, I ask, is the motive behind Russia's actions? I certainly don't condone the use of military force, but why do we assume Georgia to be completely innocent?

Also, you condemn the EU's stance, but what exactly will the US do about the situation? Nothing, is the answer to that. America, unless it's attacked directly, will not go to war with a powerful country such as Russia (mind you, I'm glad they won't, as that would be a world disaster).

I believe situations are seldom as clear-cut as your poem would have us think. One thing's for sure, though--nothing's going to be solved by military action. At the end of the day, Russia and Georgia are going to have to find an accommodation of some sort.

    Regards,
    Bill

      Bill

I respect your stance. But it seems to me this is exactly the same stance western Europe took with the Sudetenland & Austria in the 30s. Then what happend? As far as the U.S. getting envolved..Well I wish the Europeans would make up their confused minds. It seems they only needs us in times of dire trouble. Otherwise they hate us.& Bill again , like the Nazis said & the Commies said in 39..It was Poland & Finland that attack them. & in 79 did not the Russians say the same thing about Afghanistan?. I for one thnk America should take a back sit & let the great nation of France deal with Rusiia. lol Now that is worth a big laugh.

As a previous poster said, the title is misleading. However, it fits perfectly with your piece. Brilliant political commentary.
