Reality

Missing image
  "String Theory"  (Courtesy of Photobucket)

Is reality only what I choose to see?
What I create or what I allow myself to perceive?

Is each person in their isolated world that they have made?
Blind to other worlds that people have explored and laid?

What is the essence and reality of my being?
Does it really exist or have any meaning?

I feel as though I am hanging suspended on a string
Whose source and origin is quite a mysterious thing

Drifting through a Universe of nothingness and infinity
Is it my choice what I create and perceive reality to be?

    Good write here

Yes within each of our minds we so view this planet in different ways and how life has presented itself to us helps to form our opinions of reality . We are all but one speck of the reallity of this world and without the joining of these molecules it stunts its growth therefore the complete view is never truly seen of what could be

I read somewhere that something only exists if you perceive it- thus yes, I do believe you can create your own reality. And this probably means...everyone has a different view, different perception of this world that we all live in. Then, which is real? Aww..more questions..
    Great poem btw!

I agree with that. Reality is what we perceive and create it to be! Yet, I know that there are other realities outside of my own; such as other people's realities and things that we are not capable of perceiving. Science has proven that many things exist outside of the human capacity to "perceive" it. Thank you for your comment!

I really like how this poem is filled with questions yet you still convey your opinions fairly definitively. I think that it feels personal; the reader is inside your mind as you are exploring and discovering these ideas. A few places in the poem have awkward wording or punctuation but it doesn't detract from the overall impact too much. Wonderful take on the prompt; thank you so much for entering! I really enjoyed reading this.

Haha that happens to me all the time; sometimes I go back and look at poetry from months ago and edit or change things to make them work better when I hadn't noticed anything wrong several other times I'd read it. It's hard to catch everything in the first read.

I guess that's a good thing; to always be improving our writing. Thank you.

Absolutely Not only does it improve the individual works we're fixing, but it also is a great way to learn and get better overall.

I appreciate the honorable mention. Don't know that it deserved it, but thanks.

I will definitely try to come back and read the others. I am always interested in philosphy and the pursuit of truth; so I want to know what others think and experience as well.
                  Blessings...

Well I think you deserved it And I think I judge relatively fairly; I have a whole grading scale and everything. You did a great job. I hope you had fun with this!

It was a great contest. It's hard for me to be objective about my own poetry. Thank you for honoring it and for the input!

Always hard to be objective about our own work. Well, great job and hopefully something I said in the comment was helpful haha.

Good. And, thank you for answering the open-ended question of the poem. I like all the input I can get on this. It is a very interesting question to think about, and I don't want to give my own ideas on it right now; although i have quite a few. i am more interested in what others think.

    oooooh Deep

yes yes yes I think the answer to your questions are YES we make our own reality, and that is some power we each hold. Of course, I could be biased and just wish this to be the case because I like to be in charge of myself.

very cool and "philosophical" poem. You kinda sound like a hippy haha.. in a very good way because hippies rock.

    Loved it!

    It's a thinker.

Thanks hon. Yes, I confess I am a hippy at heart, or "flower child" is what i prefer.

Oh, I added a picture on string theory i thought would make it more interesting, if you want to take another look...
