Bayeux

Sky-blue lie grubs
glowed softly on my fingers,
before I let them go,
to liquefy and butterfly
their way up through the fabric
and paint the picture
we all knew wasn’t true.

Author notes

As the title might suggest, this is (very) vaguely inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry, which I know isn't actually a tapestry, but hopefully this fits the theme anyway.

Interesting picture painted here. The only grubs I know of are white and repulsive. They become beetles which eat my flowers.

I could buy all but the last line here. What would make it true or untrue. The fact that they're "lie grubs"?

Moths eat cloth, so I suppose grubs could.

Confused about what you mean by what you say about the last line - sorry; I am slow, do you mind explaining?

And, yeah, I used the word 'grubs' firstly to get the idea of something which turns into something else - a sort of baby lie - and secondly because they are pretty repulsive.
