the cure

Sickle cell promises
and words like pneumonia

Wide spread epidemic
of being loved and lost.
Awaiting a cure for this cancer,
if all hope is not lost.

Malice and deceit,
these are your tools of the trade.

Amidst our waiting, you came for us.
Bringing vaccinations to treat and heal
the many nations.
You bring defeat to our decay and, in your care,
we got away.

Staring into my face,
as if to give a comforting embrace, you told me,
"We are the cure".
