eight o'clock shadow

cruelty forgot
ancient call gold fame power
dignity aside
excellence born shines bright sun
shadows hide precious freedom

Usually I like to stay away from political themes what so ever, but I guess you have a point here, I would have to disagree I don’t think that international pressure would it work, I mean there are things that are just done without fearing consequences which I believe is the case here, US doesn’t back off from any of the decisions this government has made, despite the international pressure but anyway I can just hope that we can have a memory of all that has happen to stop it from happening in the future.

    Leslie.
PS I hope I made sense.

      Leslie-
If its how you feel it makes perfect sense, all any of us have to offer is an opinion; and yours is thoughtful...seems pretty realistic too...thanks...PK

please don't let the topic die ...

Where red blood flows upon the streets
The lord of all his watch does keep,
And those with blood upon their feet
May find the wrath of God complete!

    Shadow's power deepens and darkens
    obliterating the crime
as if it did not exist.
Frolicking Pres, playing in the sand,
    a master shadow cranker,
    two stolen elections.

Bravos to you, Mari and Yem
    for speaking out.

I know the location of the games is troubling but for me it's just another in a long line of disgraces. Tibet, Darfur, Georgia, Iraq...

Was it a good idea to allow China to host the games? No. Was it a good idea to allow Russia...or quite frankly, should the US be allowed to host them until they clean up their act? I thought about a subtle protest by turning off the tv, an action I guess that would have been effective if it had been accepted globally...money does talk after-all...and of course if we stopped buying their cheap trinkets they export to the US....

Remember 1980, the US not going to the Olympics to protest Russia's invasion if Afghanistan? Now we go to the offending country and sit with their leaders...I'm no republican (not by any measure thinkable) but I still swear I could hear Reagen turning over in his grave.

Please take away this soapbox, I'm getting a nose bleed.

Now you've done it..suggesting the logic of the position is in contravention to its purpose... wait i think i spoke too fast and made myself lighthearted...now, China and Tibet..I think China wanted this badly enuff that some world pressure would have worked splendidly...the monolith can move whenever it wishes...now I dont think Bush is a leader and a leader was needed to push this... the US TV market is important to everyone who sells to the West...having said all of that, yes a boycott was an option but so is engagement of China with some determination on the issue of free Tibet; doing nothing but lip service was also an option...I saw Bush playing volleyball with the women's team on the beach...he looked very relaxed and Presidential, I think he was showing us--the whole world, his worth-- the areas of his concern...yes, free the volleys!!!...PK

I so wish that more people could see beyond the games, and realize that so much could have been done, to Freedom. So sad when cruelty is forgotten, and medals matter more than lives...
    Thanks for writing about it

After reading your authors notes, I went back to reread the poem. Brilliant description of different factors which go into the Olympics, and your writing style is so short and to the point, which is nice. I hate reading poems which have words just for the sake of words, yet yours doesn't have even one single filler, it's interesting how there is nothing that connects some words even, they just jump right to the next thought which is different and I like it.
