True beauty is not to be found
Upon a pretty face
But hides itself from prying eyes
In an unexpected place.
No mellow fancies for this worth,
Nor gleaming smiles on perfect skin,
But rather wholesome qualities
That sparkle from within.
I've stood on crowded platforms,
And walked a busy street
But cannot say with honest truth
I've seen beauty, in all I meet.
Some wear a shallow masquerade,
Of a dainty, fragile part
Whilst beneath their frivolous disguise
They wear a dark and sickening heart.
But to see the sheen of honesty,
Upon a plainer, less pretty mask
And know the love that loyal heart holds
Is all that true beauty can ask.
Upon a pretty face
But hides itself from prying eyes
In an unexpected place.
No mellow fancies for this worth,
Nor gleaming smiles on perfect skin,
But rather wholesome qualities
That sparkle from within.
I've stood on crowded platforms,
And walked a busy street
But cannot say with honest truth
I've seen beauty, in all I meet.
Some wear a shallow masquerade,
Of a dainty, fragile part
Whilst beneath their frivolous disguise
They wear a dark and sickening heart.
But to see the sheen of honesty,
Upon a plainer, less pretty mask
And know the love that loyal heart holds
Is all that true beauty can ask.
Author notes
It's true isn't it, that beauty lies within, or so I believe. And yet in today's world it can be hard to find the sincerity of a wholesome partner let alone friend, because so much of the focus is on the shallowness that we all see face to face, but not beneath. Dig a little deeper in everyone. You never know what you might find.

This is so true!! You are very right!! You did such a lovely job writing this!! You gave great details and really put your heart and soul into this people worry way too much about the outside and don't look at the inside enough!! I LOVE IT!!

I say lead by example...show love and let in be contagious...it will catch on...I've tried and it works.. Beautiful write however sad and a little discouraging. To thine ownself be true and the rest of the world will follow.
God Bless.

I really loved your words. My favorite part was:
"Some wear a shallow masquerade,
Of a dainty, fragile part
Whilst beneath their frivolous disguise
They wear a dark and sickening heart"
I used Britney Spears as an example of how a pretty face and nice body don't make someone beautiful to get the point across to my AP daughter. Thanks for the lovely entry and good luck. -
Loev this piece. Definitely holds a ton of truth and says it so well. Best of luck in the contest.

This was beautiful. It is true. some of the most beautiful ppl have the ugliest insides. but if you look a little deeper in anyone you just might find that they are the most beautiful creature. it's not all about the outside. but then again you have to be willing to look past the outside to see the true beauty of a person.
great write hun and good luck
