I'll Leave The Light On

I lay here, inside myself, staring at the stars
And in my introverted state of mind, I wonder how you are
Are you dreaming of me, sleeping, at peace?
Is everything in your life how it should be?
As an insomniac I can't say I know too well
The wonderful dreams and stories they tell
But I know there's a place for you in my heart
No matter how close or far we're apart

If just once I could hear you say
That I'm the reason you face the day
That I'm the light that leads you on
That I'm your guide when the path is gone
Then I...

I could fall asleep and I could dream
Then for a few hours you'd be here with me
And you could tell me everything I've wanted to hear
A whisper like the wind speaking to my ears
And I could feel my heart come alive
I could feel myself reaching towards the sky
I'm staring at heaven, I'm lost in your eyes
No don't wake me now, I can't say goodbye

If just once I could hear you say
That I'm the reason you face the day
That I'm the light that leads you on
That I'm your guide when the path is gone
Then I...

I'll leave the light on if it helps you see
If it fights your fear and brings you closer to me
And if you prefer the dark I can live with that too
I'll take your hand and guide you through

Aww that's a sweet poem. Written from the heart, I'd like to wager.
My favorite part is the "I could fall asleep and I could dream
Then for a few hours you'd be here with me"
That part just jumps out at me.
    Fantastico!

Best lines? "In my introverted state of mind" and "Don't wake me now, I can't say goodbye." I enjoy the fact that, despite the narrator's indicated hope that in being with the subject of the poem they will be able to sleep, the poem seems mostly about giving to the other person rather than taking.

The last stanza was my favorite..just so cute and heartfelt...that no matter what the situation, you want to be there, simply because she is there.
