slowly, clumsy, and slightly irregular
but of course he never mind his own buffoonery
he found it more his style to be play a fool.
He kicked and flared his way across the dance floor
like feet, against red hot concrete on an August mid-summer day.
and while I was dancing to the rhythm of the music
I tried to concentrate on my movements
but, the lack of his was quite distracting.
Let's face it, he was no Fred Astaire
He was more of a flight of stairs
spiral, to say the least.
That seemed to go on forever
Because danny boy would put on this act
to prove that any no talented hack
could win the winnings of my heart.
The only difference between him and the rest of the lot
is that Fred Astaire would have applauded for his performance
Because who could really tell if it was all pretend...
or the workings of someone I had the chance to love.
Author notes
My mom is a big Fred Astair fan, so I too have been getting into his material. I have to say he is one of the best dancers and performers in the last 50 years, maybe even more.
This piece is inspired by a guy I know who has NO rhytm, but is still the coolist kid I know. He's quirky, he's odd, and he's ackward, but I adore him anyway.
