I can’t cage beauty – no one can – but if
you’ll sit and read a little, I might try
to paint some still-frame images to lift
this daily weight & worry from your mind.
I wonder, have you ever seen the dawn
held prisoner by the noble Pyrenees?
They wreathe the sun with breathless cloudlings, drawn
and teased like thistledown upon the breeze.
Or have you seen the canyons and the hills
of Europe’s greenest heart? Where kestrels soar
or dive, majestic, from old castle walls;
where pine-trees creak and crack with winter’s thaw.
This beauty is as free and wild as they
who dare to gaze with wonder on the day.

Well... I must say... I'm also trying to write a English Sonnet and am finding it particularly difficult. I find this piece wonderful ~ not all sonnets must rhyme. Great work, hopefully it will inspire me...
