A Friend Like Me

You sit there, everyone else around you,
But still, deep down, you know,
No one...no one is your comrade,
As the loneliness encloses,
Who are you to turn to?
No buddy cares.

You yearn for attention,
For affection,
Nothing is going right,
Heart beating faster,
Why is no one by your side?
Can't they see those tears?
What about your friends?
Wait...these are your good friends...
Why can they not see what's happening.

Hold one a little longer,
Hope someone notices you,
Pray someone praises you,
You need the love,
You desire it.
Yet still you're ignored.

Time passes by,
You're heart sinks lower,
Hugging your knees,
Whispering: "OH GOD PLEASE!"
Yet still no answer?
They still walk past you,
Do they think you're a freak?
Is your behaviour so weird?
Why can't they see you for who you are?
They are blind.

The abyss swallows you,
Your body is cold.
Ice covers your skin,
You sink lower,
Blood pumping,
Drowning,
Pressure building in the skull,
Inhalation of nothing,
Lungs losing air,
Hold on...

Something grasps your wrist,
Body dragged upwards.
Contact with the surface is made,
Air is spluttered out,
Pattering like water.
You're lungs inhale,
You're crying now,
Your body hunched over the edge.
Coughing, as you fight.

Once calmed you glance up,
And there, looking at you,
With those brilliant bright eyes.
That soft smile, that you know will change,
The smirk is coming, you know it,
They hand you a towel, and you dry the tears.
"Idiot...don't do that again." is what they say.
You sit their cold and they get up.
They wait for you to follow,
You get up shakily, and they sigh.

Hoisted up, upon their back,
They carry you home,
They sit and wait while you shower,
While you dress in warm clothes,
They stay as you slip under the covers of your bed,
Huddled tightly together,
They hand you a blanket.

A drop falls, and hits your hand,
You glance down, and then it strikes you,
You're still crying.
They wipe the tears away with their thumb,
There is a long pause, you're drawn in,
You're now in their warm embrace,
They hold you to them, as you shiver,
As you cry and soak their shoulder.
No words are needed, for now you know...
When others turn their back...
I'll always be there to drag you back out...
You ain't leaving me here,
We're a team...
