SongByrd

It was a long time ago
Back when the stars
Began to shine
Before the mountains rose
Above the valley
The songbyrd would sing
As the morning came to light
A sweet melody
That made me happy
Now that winter storm has chased you away
I wish you come back
To bring me to life again

Oh, Songbyrd
Where have you flown to?
My child born among the stars
Oh, Songbyrd
Where have you flown to?
Come back into my heart

It seems like just yesterday
When you were by my side
The magic we'd create
Used to make people cry
But you've been gone so long
I wouldn't recognize your face
Why have you left me here
In a darkness deep as space

Oh, Songbyrd
Where have you flown to?
My heartsong from the skies
Oh, Songbyrd
Where have you flown to?
Come back and fill my empty heart

I search the skies everyday
For a sign of you
My long lost passion
For love, life and truth
And when I see the sun
Rising in the east
I can almost hear your melody
Yet, it's out of reach

Oh, Songbyrd
Where have you flown to?
My heartsong from the stars
Oh, Songbyrd
Where have you flown to?
Songbyrd
Come back into my heart

Come back to my heart

Author notes

My name Songbyrd was given to me at a poetry convention in Orlando, FL in 2001. Instead of a poem written for the contest entry I sang a song I wrote instead, called "Trust the Raven." It was truly a poem that I just decieded to sing. I was the first to read in a group of 5,000 people. While I didn't win anything, the bird part stuck and I was branded. From that moment on everyone asked me to convert their poetry into a song and I would. It has actually been copy written to me with the "y" doted like and i. The actual copy write says A. Songbyrd. The poem was written in the fact that I have lost my spirit in depression and my songbyrd no longer sings. Yet, I wish it would return so I had some kind of happiness again.

ancient poetry was originally sung - it was a natual impulse that helped the poems to live on and be remembered in an age when hardly anyone knew how to read and write. Sing on, Songbyrd.
