With Death I went out walking
On a clouded winter’s day
And I asked him all the questions
I had been afraid to say
We talked as clouds grew darker
Of what will come to pass
When the ground beneath me falters
And I fall to die at last
He told of many horrors
And the wonders that await
I learned about the purpose
Though I fear I learned too late
We walked on through the bitter cold
Yet I felt naught a chill
For with death in my company
I could fare no ill
How firmly did he hold my hand
I held his gaze with mine
As all my doubts were cast away
Locked in a box of pine
He left no set of footprints
No mark that I could see
And I found this quite fitting
For one such as he
We passed between the houses
Though no one stopped to stare
I knew they could not see him
For them he did not care
I never wanted it to end
His strangely perfect tale
Though I knew the time would come
The skies were growing pale
Night soon showed it’s solemn face
And death had to depart
He told me that I could not come
For I had a beating heart

WOW!
This is a very profound piece on walking with death that I have read in a long, long time. You did very well explaining this walk with death image by image, like it was a movie. Wonderfully written. Thank you for sharing.
Hugs,
Barbara
