Jewel Of Australia

Harlequin bird, Rainbow Finch
Jewel of Australia’s  top end
petite one of spectacular plumage
with your vibrant colouring
savanna wood dweller, grass seed eater.

Migratory social birds, yet,
classified as endangered.
Parasites, predators, or introduced animals,
trappers selling to pet shops for cash
the Jewel of Australia, hunted down.

When the fires or rains fail to arrive
no seasonal renewals of the environment,
brings another year without life’s essentials.
Man made or naturally occurring events
combined, dramatically decreasing their numbers.

The plight of the Gouldian, like many, endangered.
Can you help, can you hear its soft call?
Precious Gouldian Finch needs our help
to survive in its natural surroundings.
Who will answer the Jewel of Australia’s savanna?

Sometimes I think it is mankind's determination to destroy anything beautiful in this world. This is such a shame. These creatures are so gorgeous and their plight is so sad. Awesome write, thank you.
