my lips set free.
One word
upon a seasoned breeze,
one gentle zephyr’s kiss released
to stir the forest leaves.
My love, how could one whisper
disturb the canopy?
Your eyes I thought
at first to seek,
in caressing ears
would you turn to me?
Five letters upon
breath’s anxious steed,
borne into April…oh April,
the music, are you listening?
Our lives
forever changed,
as summers gained,
still we shared.
When our falls arrived,
they found us prepared.
Our Winters came
and we were always spared.
With our old age it seems,
each spring returned most fair.
As the day we met,
my April most dear.
Your name
became a symphony,
listen...
our children’s children sing.
My love do not fear,
that which the chorus is following.
Soon one of us must surely sleep.
The other, for a time enduring spring's;
…notes upon our seasoned breeze.

Excellent Who said that men have no ideas when it comes to romantic feelings This one proves them all wrote in a big way

thank you for you entree i wish you luck

I agree with Ithica ... someone is very luck indeed to have such poetry written for her. Some men can't even put two words together and then there are those that excell themselves. Count yourself among the latter.

Your wife is a lucky gal to have a man who can express his love with such an elegant hand!!! A poem which I'm sure will be cherished for generations. This is a solid foundation, handed down, will make it a force to be reckoned with, and a blessing to behold!!! Beautiful!

this is beautiful. it made me smile as i read it, some of us jaded younger writers (or at least this one!) need to read about real, lasting love on occasion to remind us it's really out there. absolutely lovely, i think i;ll come back to this one when i need a pick-me-up.

This is just so beautiful Michael. The emotion is so deep and rich, it flows wonderfully and really lets the reader into your heart and the deep compelling love that you have for your partner. Just beautiful and a wonderful compliment to the Neruda piece. Hugs, Bunny

to me this speaks
of love in words as best to describe what there are no words deep enough to express , a love and sense of devotion the in silence speaks louder from the heart than can be spoken. wonderful piece you have penned here.

And I'm sure your lovely wife, April loves this poem - and you... it's beautiful to read love like this between a husband and a wife. This line is so beautiful "My love, how could one whisper
disturb the canopy?" - yes, it's possible for one whisper to do that and even disturb the understory of the forest too. Lovely poetry.

Outstanding "Five letters upon breath's anxious steed!" Delightful descriptions of sharing life's seasons together. Lovely "our children's children sing...do not fear that which [in] the chorus is following." Endings are foreseen in beginnings of beautiful undertakings like symphonies, songs, and families. Memories of a lifetime of love can sustain us when we must undergo separation for a season. You certainly must share this with your beloved, if you have not already done so! Sweetly and tenderly written.
