Lonely Little Willow

Missing image
Graceful little Willow tree,
why stand all alone?
Frozen snow hinders leaves,
tell me, where is home?

You must be tired, little tree,
It's been a dreary day,
far above clouds that be
More snow's on the way.
Weather will worsen,
I'd like it if you stayed.

So come inside, I've saved a place
We have all may be required
We'll warm you up with tea
and cakes,
whatever you desire.

We'll sit here, listen to wind,
in our evening's best attire
Whatever you do, my little tree,
Don't sit close to the fire!

Though I loved your picture of the old willow, I've had this image and have always wanted to write about it. If it does not please the judge, DQ it, no worries

At first I was struck by the whole Charlie Brown Christmas of the poor tree, till I got all metaphorically twisted. Yeah, it's a tree, but this could also be love, a new and tender love, brightly muddled in fear of falling apart, rather than into each other. The end, that warning to the tree? It fits, really, if you think about it. Maybe it's just brain pain. That or I need more coffee. It's a great write, that much I know.

I read this with lots of images going through my mind. A street person I know, a bonzai tree, a new arival just getting established, a child's view of things...
I love the bit of humour at the end

    Thanks for entering.

    Outstanding

I didn't find a lot wrong with this- not sure why you want to re-write it. I loved the whole concept of bringing the tree indoors to get it out of the chill- though I think you might struggle to find enough space for it lol... The rhyme is smooth and doesn't detract from the poem. A fantastic poem.Best of luck in the contest.
