When the call of the sea gets too strong to resist
He will walk to the end of the pier just to dream
All his thoughts can be tossed to the tide or the stream
And he hopes that the land can be lost in the mist
I must stand far away since I can not assist
As he fights in his mind to regain the esteem
Of the ghosts of his youth who had worked to raise steam
And the years since the war for a while were dismissed
As a ship's engineer with a convoy to save
He can dream he's not old but the best of the brave
While the man that I see is now battered and bent
There's a man in his mind with a whole life ahead
Then he turns on his heel his depression is spent
With a smile he remarks "well at least I'm not dead"

I love that ending but you did not follow the rules and even if you think a judge asks for something stupid you should still do it if you want to be considered. -
Ah. Nice stirring finish. Really nicely done.
Thanks for entering.
