It's raining today.
Falling from way on high.
From my touch you're far away.
I feel the need to cry.
Whiskey and longing don't mix,
It's best I don't even try.
Yeah, it's a hurt nothing can fix,
I've got this need to cry.
I could call you on the phone,
If only to hear you sigh.
But still I would hurt to the bone,
I can't give in to this need to cry.
So I'll sit here by the window,
Wishing like the leaves I'd just die.
I love you, but you can't ever know
And I feel the need to cry.
Author notes
I was listening to some old Irma Thomas records and this popped into my head. It's sort of a blues song in progress.
