The Turn Around Often Hurts Just As Much

There was a gathering of family and friends,
everyone was there having fun and then.
I arrived and was excited to be greeted with love and then  everyone  just ,

stared and left the room there was not one friendly grin.

I stayed still for a moment and then moved to where they had gone,
it was as though in this house I was the only one.
So I clapped my hand loud and made them all look my way,
and in a soft voice replied you like gossip then hear me today.

Everyone started looking about and gave me a harsh look my way,
I settled into a chair and commenced to unload what I knew that day .
Now Margarete over their feeling so above me I must say ,
she is messing around with John every other day.

Hold on now I'm not finished as she rose to keep them there,
you all like to believe gossip so lets all share.
Carry has lived in this town all her life,
but Carry was once a man in his past that's right.

Oh gossip to believe all the rumors well its childish indeed,
you treat me as though I have the plague and ignore me.
Try to look into your own past and tell me what would you like the public to know ,

For to leave one so alone will sure tare down a soul.

Now someone tell me right now what has caused this rudeness today ,
Tell me now or I shall continue this display.
No one will leave until this is straightened out,
and tell me who was it that started it with their big mouth.

Silence fell upon the group yet many looked her way,
Oh I see and not a word did you have to say.
Ok Betty please tell me for I am the one you talked about,
and as I got no answer I broke the silence with a shout .

NOW BETTY I'M WAITING!
Then the group all chimed in.
she said you were having an affair with brother Jim.
Well how about we ask him and I moved to the phone ,
and she invited brother Jim over to their home .

Nervous they all were for secrets were no more,
she intended to bring every-ones life and hang it on the line for sure.
As brother Jim entered the room she told him have you ever been out with me ,
He blushed and replied no mam that wasn't me.

I turned to Betty and replied you have the floor,
and she tried to leave and the crowd stopped her for sure.
Where did you hear that and speak up for all to hear,
and from that moment on the turn around was hurtful and more.

From that day on there wasn't anything she could say,
no one ever believed her after that day .
To deliberately hurt another by something you just heard,
be prepared for many has known you since you were a little girl.

Gossip definitely hurts. (As a matter of fact in Judaism it is a sin.) If more people were careful with what they say, the world would be a better place. Nice write.
