We walk in small pools afraid
of deep water
See the mud on our shoes
as a sign that we are making it
as we stand on soft ground.
Are we so perplexed by
life that we always
must know where the bottom is
Afraid to sink or swim
in times of strife
Looking down into
muddy little dreams
never ahead
We shy away from the
clear deep pools
imagining
they are deeper than they are.
Always waiting for others
to dive in to see if
they sink or swim as
you wade
the shallow water.

Playing in mudholes now that is just so much fun to get all wet and muddy but the good part is being able to go take a shower and wash it away. So we take the chance and step right on in
An excellent take on the prompt
good luck in the contest.
