I said goodnight,
Kissed those tender lips,
Sung you a song
Til drowsiness took place.
I awoke to your face,
Your gentle smiling eyes
And your perfect tender lips
And as I said I love you,
You smiled with such wonder.
You listen to me always
Through thick and thin
And love and illness.
I always know you shall be there for me.
But today I shall walk upon our street,
An empty hand at my side
Begging for your warmth and comfort
But instead all I will get is memories.
I shall always see you,
As I walk past your plaque,
“Lest We Forget”.
Author notes
The face that I speak of when she wakes up is a picture of him smiling on her dressing table....just iin case you didn't get that. By the way this isn't about me or anyone I know personally. Just a poeam to remember the widows of war heros. Maybe like my grandma.
