Maybe it's the reason I seek to explain
why water tastes old after only an hour
And though I am, as always, thirsty for more
I shudder to taste the dust as I sip it
feeling the itch in the back of my throat
I try to tell myself that it really shouldn't matter
That this water is billions of years old already
but still, I can no longer picture it as clean
And it feels somehow wrong as I take it in
I live in a desert, I shouldn't be wasteful
yet I don't feel so bad as I watch it drain
Down the sink
I pour myself another glass
and let the cold give me a headache
Oh, but it tastes so good

I am very weird. But that second line just popped into my head and wouldn't leave me alone. And I like what this turned into.
