Tarotic Vison Quest - 01 The Magician

Missing image

The wizard on our journey without path
acts not, like fool, with innocent distraction.
With strength and power, yet devoid of wrath,
he guides his tools with masterful perfection.

The cauldron of intuition in his hand,
he knows the mystic power of emotion ,
bestowing wings to spirit’s magic wand,
transforming thoughts into a magic potion.

For clarity of mind conducts the fluids
of subtle energy, the fuel of action;
an ancient secret cherished by the Druids,
who knew of alchemistic interaction.

Like Cerridwen or Merlin, we use will
to draw down Spirit into world of matter.
One-pointedness of mind attracts, to fill
the empty cup, when cleared from mental chatter.

A powerhouse of radiating light,
when firm and focused, surely offers vision
and guides the soul-boats safely through the night
through subtle telepathic wave-transmission.

But Source of Light might still be seen outside
a separated body-mind-existence;
and Sun of Truth may, for the moment, hide
behind dark dreamlike thought-clouds of resistance.

A mage is not a sage, like black’s not white.
The difference lies in this observation :
the mage thinks : “I’m the tool, but not the Light”,
while sage is free from dream of separation.

Yet, totem of Wild Boar is sure to teach
to face our fears and demons we’re ignoring,
while gentleness of Deer will help us reach
clear goal of unknown path that we’re exploring.

The gift of camouflage, Sir Fox shall bring
to us – in case we strive for recognition.
The art of merging into everything
will be the highest goal for true Magician.

Author notes

A NON-ENTRY ... NO TROPHIES OR POINTS PLEASE …
JUST PARTICIPATING FOR THE JOY OF SHARING …

***

an intuitive approach of the transformational magic of tarot ...
bridging tradition with contemporary insights and my own integration
of the wisdom of non-duality ...
probably an explosive cocktail that might be poison for some -
and nectar to others ...

***

I have around 20 different tarot-decks, all sorts, except the
classical "marseille-deck" ... that's my aquarian side of
exploring new ways ... and my wolf-totem encouraging me to be
a pathfinder, and not a follower ...

I also wish to present the associated totem-animal-spirit-guides
in this contest-series, for they truly connect us to the earthly
incorporation of the energies that the intellectual concepts of
tarot suggest ...

here we have fox, wild boar and deer spirit ...
fox is teaching us the art of becoming invisible, so we can observe and learn from our observations … the art of becoming one with one’s surrounding can be a useful tool for a spy – but ultimately, it is considered as the final accomplishment of a selfless seeker of Truth who has left behind his ego-personality and realizes himself one with All …
wild boar’s medicine bestows its bearer the gift of being able to courageously face people and situations he might be denying, and to finally break free from the paralysing claw of fear …
deer totem represents the mighty power of gentleness that is able to melt down the demons that are haunting our minds … fighting against them will only fortify them, while love and compassion will dissolve the phantoms and bring back peace …

Your poem lays out many great truths, one after the other. I think I need to study this one more deeply, and the form makes that a pleasure as well as a spiritual pursuit. Learning to use the energy of life and not resist its laws can take a lifetime (or a dozen).

    I have great joy

from judging your work. This is incredibly thought out. The use of the animal totems helps to reveal the various apects of the card. The allusions to the legend of Merlin and Avalon are icing on the cake. The esoteric side of this card is shown to all. Your first stanza is sufficient in describing the well trod path of the magician.

    This is another beauty!

I'm glad I didn't have to weigh this against Mairi's piece. Your magician is the 'inner world'. Hers is the outer world. Both very different aspects of the same card. Judging your entries will be a humbling experience. This one reveals an arcane understanding that I would've never guessed that you had. I'm in awe. Your first stanza is a wonderful summation of this card. Thank you for sharing your work with me.

I don't know anything about tarot
but I do know that this is an amazing soulful write,
    deep deep in wisdom.
your words always seem to float effortlessly, and serenely across the page.
I do know that fear and fear alone is what keeps humanity from oneness.
you have quite a wonderful gift my friend and it is quite a pleasure to read your word, they are always full of profound wisdom.
    God bless always...

I love the rhyme sequence and rhythm of this piece, as well as your superbly rhyming phrases. And the mystical magical images that spring forth from each line are a delight, a whisper. Well done.
