Just Out of Diapers

Waiting for public transportation
Is a nightmare all by itself
Waiting for a bus with a little boy
That’s been crying for five minutes
While holding himself is another
Story all together

Good Lord, what a time to be potty trained
No Restaurants, no big stores to duck in
Any minute the bus was scheduled to appear
I didn’t want to miss it and wait another hour
Standing there no one else on the corner
I thought to myself, “Why not, who will know”

It will be our little secret, and he really has to go
Damn, no zipper, got to take his pants down to pee
Okay, if I stand in front of him no passing car can see
Well I did it; he did it, the bus came, the end
NO, Months later I was sure he had forgotten

On that same bus with his mother along this time
Did I mention that the bus was really packed
My nephew screamed at the top of his voice
“Mommy, that’s where Aunt Jo-Ann let me pee
Right next to that wall”, Heads turned

If my complexion had been much lighter
The redness would be there for all to see
Instead I just held my head up high
Because when mommy’s not around
Aunties too no just what to do

I was once told that if I had any skeletons in my closet, it was best to get them all disposed of before my kids learned how to talk. They sometimes remember (usually loudly) the things we most wish they would not!
What a resourceful and fast-thinking Aunt!
